GM guide updated 5-24-09

Heres alittle guide that will tell you if you are a good gm and will teach you how to become a good gm.
*Note this guide wasn't made to make fun of GMs. This was made for the less expierenced GMs that may not know if they are good or not to the community.*[/

Here are some questions that you should think about: Am I following the Admin's rules? Do i help anyone that is in need of assitance? Do I keep the players busy? Last question Why did I become a GM.

Now that you have thought of those questions in mind. Lets Get Started.

The way i'm gonna start off this guide is to tell you allittle bit about GMs.
GMs (Game Masters) they are supose to be the balance in a good server. GMs are expected to answer any help from a player if the player may be having account issues, or questions, or seeing a hacker. *Note GMs might not answer the questions because there may be already answers to them on the forums* Gms follow the rules of the admins and dont do something behind the back even if it is one person.

Getting Started

1) step one on getting started is getting a good handbook. (Recommend the gm handbooks thats give commands, item ids and monster ids). Search on Google for one there are many good ones.

2) download your handbook and read the commands memorize them or just know them well. The one that you should practice are leveling up other pepople and the banning function.

3) After you have familirized your self with the commands lets go on the server and try out some ids. (Monsters, Items) you pick your the one that has to get good at this to please your players at a certain content. Now dont over summon monsters because that will cause lagg to the server and everyone else.

4) Now that you have practiced alittle lets try something more of a challenge. Lets try making items. Easiest way to make items is to do !item then id. do ctrl +alt+tab to minimize maple and go open your gm hand book and look through your equipment section or items. you can copy the item id then click the maple client and do !item then click on the key board ctrl +v to paste the id into the chat windo. Easy huh?

5)Congratz on making your weapons now its time to do your job and help out other players. You should use the command !say to let ppl know that your on and that if they have any questions or problems to conatact you. do that about every 15 or so minutes to catch new players that may have logged in during that time.

There was so tips on getting started now lets move on to hosting events.

Events :
Every player loves events. Events are special planned surprises from the staff of your server.

There are two types of even styles you can do: Random, and Planned.

Random Event- is when you the GM limit the options of an event (ex: heres three of my fav i would limit it to. Pvp Event,
Hide and Seek and Drop event) When you narrow it down like that randomly pick one and thats pretty much it.

Planned Event- This is usually the bigger of the two Events. This one is usually something that may be planned for hoilday or a whole server event were you can get an exclusive item.

Now that you know alittle bit about the Events I strongly suggest that you do a radom style event for your first event held.

To people to learn of your event just do !say or !notice and tell them that there is event about to happen or is in the process. (example: !say Hide and Seek event on channel 3 in ten minutes.) If you do Hide and seek you can do it two ways.

One is the typical hide and seek were you tell them the map you are on and your invisble ( using Hide on Gm skills must put one point into Hide inorder to do the skill) get in one spot and stay there. Then tell them to find you and the closest one to touching you wins and you say 1st place then the players name and do it all the way to 3rd place

The other is that you annouce about the event. !say ( example Hide and Seek Event.) After you say that then you give them a hint to your location (Example Its very hot in here near the big statue) give them about 3-4 hints then just repeat them. There the that one.

Now you know how to work the create item function the spawn monsters and you know how to host an Event.
Not to hard eh... Am i forgeting something...

Heres another thing that is important about being a gm. You'll be getting hella alot of pressure from players to make them stuff or to host an event. Under the pressure GMs aren't supose to make execptions if its going against the rules. GMs aren't supose to glote or be cocky if you ban a hacker or fix a server problem. Dont even think about rubbing it in the other GMs faces because they could have more expierence then you.
